Hi! This icon set was a personal challenge to make an icon/illustration set based on a theme. I chose hiking and the great outdoors because there were many different items associated with that and I thought the concept would be easy to get across.
Below was the process of making this set!
I started by making rough sketches of what I wanted to include the set. Some of these were converted exactly, some were tweaked, and some were not included at all.

The next step was deciding on the color theme for the set. I wanted it to relate to nature and open air while also having a lot of available contrast and interest. I chose blue as one of the main colors because of its ties to air and water, and chose orange to make a complementary theme that reminded me of sunsets and could add a lot of accent. I opted not to add green, even though that has a lot of ties to nature; I wanted to keep it to 2 central colors and their tints and shades.

Below is the entire range of colors used for this set.
Lastly, I converted them to vector illustrations by outlining them, combining shapes, and messing around with the colors.
I decided on a central style for the icons with the shading, highlighting, rounded corners, and other tiny details.
After converting and tweaking, the set was done!
